Project Launching workshop - support the Ministry of Health to effectively address inequalities in sexual and reproductive health and family planning

Attending and directing the workshop, on the side of MOH there were Prof. TS. Nguyen Viet Tien - Deputy Minister of Health; Assoc. Prof.Dr. Phan Le Thu Hang- Deputy Head of Planning and Finance Department, Project Director VMN9P01; Representatives of Departments of MOH; Ministries: Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, General Statistics Office; Representatives from the Departments of Health and the Reproductive Health Centers in some provinces following the pilot models of policies supported by UNFPA. On the side of international organizations there were Mrs. Astrict Bandt - Chief of UNFPA Representative in Viet Nam; Chief of UNICEF Representative in Viet Nam, leaders and experts from EU, UN Women, UN AIDS, world bank ....
With a total budget of US $ 6.4 million for the period from 2017 to 2021 in which UNFPA supports US $ 5.5 million, the project aims to improve the quality of life of Vietnamese people through developing and implementing evidence-based policies in the area of reproductive and sexual health, population and family planning. The project focuses on increasing the universal access and use for quality reproductive and sexual health services, population and family planning; deliver effective health response to the emerging health issues such as gender imbalance at birth and gender violence for all target groups, especially disadvantaged groups, vulnerable groups; and promote gender equality in Viet Nam.

Speaking at the workshop, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Viet Tien said that MOH has cooperated with UNFPA in eight previous national programs to address issues related to sexual health, population and family planning. In the period from 2012 to 2016, MOH cooperated with UNFPA with bif scale of capital and content. The project has achieved the desired results. This contributes to the success of the National Program 8 and the implementation of the National Strategy of Health profession for protecting, caring, and improving the people's health.

At the workshop, Mrs. Astrid Bant said that UNFPA pledged to support the Government of Viet Nam in reaching the vision of universal access with a quality package of reproductive and sexual health care service in all communes. districts across the country. In order to be able to implement this approach, there should be close cooperation between the public, private sector and civil society organizations. She expects that the project would have high effectiveness in the next phase.
