Workshop on Geriatric nursing training in the integration period

       Based on working plan of GVI with US Experts in Geriatric Nursing Training at Nam Dinh University of Nursing, on 19th April, 2017 Workshop on "Geriatric nursing training in the integration period" was organized under the Decision No. 792/QĐ-ĐDN signed on 17th April, 2017 by NDUN Rector for the purpose of professional exchange with lecturers.

       At the workshop, for the side of US Experts in Geriatric Nursing Training there were Mr. Mark Hemingway and Ms. Susan LupPlace. For the side of GVI Vietnam, there were Mr. Vu Manh Tan - Director, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thao - Expert. For the side of guests, there were Mr. Truong Tien Lap - Deputy Director of Nam Dinh Department of Health, Mrs. Vu Thi Phuong - Head of Nursing Department of Nam Dinh General Hospital. For the side of NDUN, there were Dr. Le Thanh Tung - Rector, Dr. Ngo Huy Hoang - Vice Rector, reporters and 61 learners.

US Experts in Geriatric Nursing Training

Overview of the workshop

       The content of the workshop as included:

       Sharing experiences in the Elderly Care: Mr. Mark Hemingway - Director of the community health care market (REIT) introduced some pictures of elderly care models and shared the care for the elderly in the US. Ms. Susan Luplace - Health Care Consultant shared experiences in training geriatric nursing practice in the US as well as some advantages, disadvantages and limitations in training and practising the elderly care.

       The real situation of health care for the elderly in Vietnam:

       Vu Thi Phuong, Specialized Nurse - Grade I, Head of Nursing Department of Nam Dinh General hospital presented report on the real situation of health care for the elderly in Nam Dinh Hospital.

       In addition, lecturers of NDUN mentioned the real situation of health care for the elderly in the community inNam Dinh province and the training content of geriatric nursing training implemented at NDUN as in Vietnam nowadays.

       Discussion:

       At the end of the workshop, the participants of the workshop had a direct discussion with experts about geriatric nursing training.

       At the end of the workshop, participants had a more detailed view on the health care for the elderly. Nam Dinh University of Nursing will coordinate with related units to develop the geriatric nursing training program in the coming time.
