International organizations support Vietnam for tobacco control
Ngày đăng: 27/06/2018 15:43 On 26th June 2018, in Hanoi, tobacco control working group meeting with international organizations of tobacco control in Vietnam was organized by Ministry of Health and Tobacco Control Fund. Attending the meeting there were Ms. Henning Kenlly - Director of the global health programs (Bloomberg Philanthropies Fund), the professionals from Health Bridge organizations, Alliance against tobacco control, the University of Chicago, Vital Strategie organization; the World Health Organization in Vietnam, ... and development partners in Vietnam.

Previous time Ms. Kelly Henning and international experts had a meeting with Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien and attended the Conference on the impact of tobacco tax increases to the health of children and women organized on 26th June 2018 by Vietnam Women's Union and Tobacco Control Fund .
Assoc.Prof. Luong Ngoc Khue, PhD - Director of Medical Services Administration, Director of Tobacco Control Fund said that a network of tobacco control has been developed in 63 provinces in Vietnam . And according to the provisions of the law there has been smoke-fee environment in 63 provinces and cities. The smoke-fee environment has been developed in four tourism cities including Ha Long, Hue, Nha Trang, and Hoi An.
Smoking has been prohibitted in 1,200 high school across the country; Smoking at indoor areas has been prohibitted in about 130 colleges and universities in the country. Especially smoke-free tourism has been developed in cities including Ha Long, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh, Hai Phong...with 236 restaurants and 51 hotels in which there is smoke-fee environment.
Tobacco control has received the support from agencies in the Government, Parliament Office, ministries, professions, and the social-political organizations such as Vietnam General Confederation of labor, Wemen Association , Farmers Association, Central Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union ...
The published survey result in the global of tobacco use in adults in 2016 conducted by General Statistics Administration in collaboration with World Health Organization and the Center for disease control in the United States showed that in Vietnam the rate of smoking in men tended to decrease (from 47.4% to 45.3%) in comparision with the year 2010. Even so, according to Assoc.Prof. Luong Ngoc Khue, this rate was high and it should be decreased more. Tobacco control also encountered difficulties in monitoring, checking, fining, increasing tobacco tax, advice on tobacco addiction. ...
At the meeting the experts together discussed the enforcement of tobacco law in Vietnam including inceasing taxes and prices of tobacco products; inspecting and fining violations of smoke-free environment; sustainability of tobacco control program and plan accompanied with Vietnam tobacco control strategy Vietnam in the coming time.
